As a resident of Pheasant Point, we are all encouraged to keep our yards and houses as nice as possible. Especially during season changes, it is easy for yards to get a little...unruly!
If you are having difficulty keeping your yard clean and well-kept due to hardship or illness, please contact your HOA for assistance.
Here are five cheap tips to keep your house looking tip-top!
1. Pick up! This is the cheapest and easiest way to keep your home looking well-cared for. Making sure that sticks and debris from trees are picked up and out of the yard is simple and quick. Raking sticks first makes removal a cinch by pulling the larger sticks into a pile. Yard waste bags are easily available at Schnucks or Dierbergs, Lowes or Home Depot. Remember to keep your bags stored in a dry place so they last longer.
Keeping newspapers picked up is easy, and makes a big difference! Did you know that decaying newspapers can attract bugs and mice?
Toys and bikes should be put away after use. This keeps them new longer, as well as keeping your yard pristine.
And don't forget to get that trash can put away after it's been picked up by the city. By keeping away the bugs and smell, this one is a must!
With so many free ways to keep our yards clean, there is no excuse for a yucky yard!
2. Paint your front door. This is easy to do as long as you make sure to tape off your hardware and hinges first, and as long as you purchase the proper paint. Doors should always be painted with appropriate paint-some manufacturers even make "front door paint" specifically for this project! Check with your local hardware store for specifics, including whether you need to sand, prime, or waterproof your door.
3. Clean your gutters. Whether you do it yourself, ask a handy neighbor, or call a professional, clean gutters make a huge difference! Not only will this keep your house looking good, but it will prevent bugs, mold, and ice pack build-up in your gutters. Cleaning gutters regularly is much more affordable than buying new gutters or needing to replace a roof!
4. Flowers. Adding flowers and shrubs to your front yard is a great and simple way to add instant appeal to your home. Whether it's a few pots or a whole new flower bed, flowers and plants will bring in beauty for years to come. Not sure what to plant, or how to do it? Check out Pinterest, hardware stores, or ask a neighbor whose yard you love.
5. Mow that grass! Keeping grass at a reasonable length keeps your yard looking great and makes sure your lo tis not in violation of maintenance.
Do you not have a mower, or is yours broken? Here are a few tips: you can borrow one from a friendly neighbor, hire a kiddo in the neighborhood or a yard care company, or you can contact the HOA if you are in hardship.
Remember, as a resident of Pheasant Point, each of us has a responsibility to maintain our property to the highest possible standard. Let's all work together to keep our property values up and our neighborhood beautiful!
